social ventures in energy

We, at Ebico, have been active in home energy for over 13 years.  In that time we’ve learnt a lot about how the energy market really works, the new technologies that give consumers low-carbon alternatives to their energy needs, how best to reduce the amount of energy homes waste and how to make keeping homes warm more affordable.  In short, we’ve learnt that there’s a lot more to delivering energy to homes than meets the eye!

In order to bring the principles of social enterprise that we pioneered, through EquiGas and EquiPower, in the energy market to the other aspects of the energy business, we’ve established Social Ventures in Energy Limited (SVE) as our wholly-owned subsidiary.  Through SVE we will help nurture and develop social enterprises in other parts of the energy market.

SVE’s first project has just been launched.

Eden Solarfair Limited

SVE has cooperated with Eden Project Limited, a social enterprise and operator of the Eden Project in Cornwall, one of the UK’s premier visitor attractions, to launch Eden Solarfair Limited.  Eden Solarfair has installed two mid-sized solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays on the roofs of large buildings on the Eden Project site.

Workers at The Eden Project will be entitled to purchase shares in Eden Solarfair in lots as small as £200.  This will mean that even those on a limited budget will be able to make an investment in a project which will offer them the kinds of return that, before, only wealthier individuals with access to large roofs could obtain.

In return for free use of the roofs, all the electricity from the panels is supplied, at no cost, to the Eden Project, lowering this unique environmentally conscious facility’s energy bills and significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

If you would like to discuss how SVE can help your organisation reduce its fuel bills, its carbon footprint whilst enhancing employee engagement with your enterprise, drop us an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
