‘Renewable microgeneration’ is the generation of your own electricity at your own home, by means of green technologies such as solar panels or wind power. You can have the satisfaction of knowing you’re running on the greenest electricity around. Now the government has introduced the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) for home microgenerators.

The FiT is an incentive structure, implemented by the Government, to encourage customers who can to generate renewable electricity. It means that you will be paid an amount per kWh (depending on type of microgeneration) for every unit of electricity that you generate.  Plus, for every metered unit of electricity you feed into the power grid (ie: which you don’t use yourself), you will be paid an extra amount per kWh.  Feed-in Tariff’s are available from the 1st of April 2010.  The rates have recently changed.  Up to date information can be found on the DECC website or on The Energy Saving Trust website.
